In 1992, a concept was conceived by FUNTIME INDUSTRIES to give customers a bungee thrill but without the safety drawbacks. FUNTIME began fine tuning the slingshot model, incorporating structural design knowledge, quality electrical engineering and solid state construction together with extreme adventure safety. In 1993 the slingshot design was partnered with FUNTIME HANDLES Austrian factory. With 20 years experience designing and constructing amusement park rides, the ride took a new technical direction. and several new innovations resulting in a modified design of the first SlingShot prototype. The SlingShot ride is powered by a unique "Spring Machine" which operates by applying over 40 tons of force to 200 specially designed extension springs. This force is then transferred to the passenger capsule via precision-engineered pulleys and multiple aircraft quality steel cables. The experience is similar to bungee jumping or the ejection seat and other similar rides, but without the same dangers, maintenance problems or operating complications.
The power of the "Spring Machine" can be varied with adjustments from a simple operating panel. This operating panel controls a computer which senses spring tension and ensures every rider whether light or heavy receives an equal amount of thrust. We have implemented a number of strategies to ensure that our Sling Shootees are safe including:
FUNTIMES ride is manufactured to a stringent quality control program meeting TUV (European Standards) ASTM (American Amusement Machine Standards) OSHA (New Zealand and Australian Safety Standards) ensuring all parts of the operation are made to the same consistent standards. The materials used in the SlingShot are of the highest quality. Our own design engineers in our R&D laboratory test all parts thoroughly before they are used in the SlingShot manufacture process. All working components are checked daily according to our designer's specifications by our competent staff to ensure a safe and fun environment for all to enjoy.
